School of charity
" What man is he that desires life and would wish to see good days ? " asks Saint Benedict at the beginning of his Rule.
The monk wishes to live to the full and has realised that to do so he must first return to his heart, he must turn within . There, in the deepest recesses of his person, man can enter into relationship with God. In prayer man finds to his wonderment that he is a beloved son of God and at the same time brother to all men. He stands alone and yet he is bound to all. As a house of those seeking God, the monastery also constitutes a school of charity, of brotherhood and of simplicity.
